2 More Milestones for Italian American Diana Taurasi
Diana Taurasi once again proved to me that without a doubt she is the top Woman’s NCAA and WNBA Basketball player ever to play the game. It’s well documented that Diana Taurasi, is extremely humble about her personal Basketball achievements, except for wanting her teams to win. In my opinion Diana also ranks in the top 50 basketball players ever to play.
On June 11 she turned 39, June 11th is also, Joe Montana’s birthday, I just think it’s worth noting that! Shortly after her 39th birthday Diana reached two more milestones in her basketball career.
Just this past week Diana, along with another Uconn teammate (2002 Season) Sue Bird, were both named to a 5th USA Olympic Basketball Team. If the team wins this year’s Olympic Gold both Taurasi and Bird will be the only Basketball players in history with 5 Olympic Gold Medals in Basketball.
Diana Taurasi 2nd milestone this week is all her own, She became the All-time Leading Scorer in WNBA History with 9,000 career points.
Taurasi didn’t see herself as a scorer when she came into the league as the first overall pick in 2004 and she still doesn’t to this day, despite the numbers proving otherwise. “I wasn’t really that much of a scorer in college,” she said. “I think my senior year, I averaged, like, 15 points. Like that wasn’t, I think, the basis of my game and I think somewhat it still isn’t.
“So, to score that many points is just that I guess a tribute to the systems that I played. “It has been a memorable month for Taurasi and hopefully when the Olympics are over there will be one more Gold Memory for our Woman’s Olympic Basketball Team and the best Woman’s basketball player in the world, past and present!
