Italian Food

Pictured here are some pictures from an Italian Festival of Angels Culture Board. This was displayed in a section specializing in Food Wine and Beer!

The Muffuletta Sandwich

The Muffuletta is a round Sicilian sesame bread as well as a submarine sandwich made with that bread that originated from New Orleans, Louisiana. The bread is a large, round, and somewhat flattened loaf with a sturdy texture, around 10 inches across. It is described as being somewhat similar to focaccia.

A traditional Muffuletta consists of one Muffuletta loaf, split horizontally. The loaf is then covered with a marinated olive salad, then layers of capicola, salami, pepperoni, *emmentaler (type of swiss cheese), ham and provolone. The size of the muffuletta is enough to feed more than one person. In 2011 we lined up a vendor to sell this Sandwich but the Festival was canceled because of the Hurricane. I tried to get them to come to the 2012 Feast but the had lined up a regular gig at Chamard Vineyard in Clinton.
