Joseph Anthony Mantegna
Joe was born November 13, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois, to Italian American parents. His parents were Mary Ann (Novelli), a shipping clerk from Acquaviva delle Fonti, Apulia, Italy, who died in 2017 at the age of 101, and Joseph Henry Mantegna, an insurance salesman from Calascibetta, Sicily, who died in 1971 of tuberculosis.
Mantegna married Arlene Vrhel on October 3, 1975.. They have two daughters: Mia and Gia. Arlene owned a Chicago-themed restaurant in Burbank, California, named Taste Chicago, which closed on March 22, 2019. Mia, born 1987, is autistic and works as a make-up artist. She has also appeared with her father on KCAL-TV in support of Autism Awareness Month (April). Gina was born in 1990 and changed her name to Gia at age eighteen. Gina is a well know actress.
Mantegna was raised Catholic and attended J. Sterling Morton High School East in Cicero, Illinois. As a young man in Chicago, he played bass in a band called The Apocryphals, which later played with another local group, The Missing Links, who went on to form the band Chicago. Mantegna is still very close to the original members of Chicago and keeps in touch with his old bandmates as well.
Mantegna is an Italian American actor, producer, and director. He began his career on stage in 1969 with the musical Hair. He earned a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play.
Mantegna started off in the film industry by doing headshots. Joe has appeared in over 100 films
On April 29, 2011, Mantegna received the 2,438th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in California.
On June 6, 2011, Mantegna’s hometown of Cicero, Illinois celebrated his body of work with an honorary street sign—Joe Mantegna Boulevard—on the northeast corner of Austin Boulevard and 25th Street, the location of his high school. In 2014, Mantegna received a star on the Italian Walk of Fame in Toronto.
On May 3, 2017, the city of Chicago dedicated Joe Mantegna Way, a section of Armitage Avenue where Mantegna lived during his early acting days.
On April 4, 2015, Mantegna received a Lifetime Achievement Award for Film and Television from The Riverside International Film Festival.
On May 22, 2015, Mantegna received the Saint Pio Award from the Saint Pio Foundation, in recognition of his outstanding contribution in being an extraordinary individual in “providing relief from suffering to those in need”.

Gina Cristine “Gia” Mantegna (born April 17, 1990) is an American actress. She is mostly known for her role as Devin Levin on American sitcom The Middle. She is the Daughter of Italian American Actor Joe Mantegna
Mantegna was born Gina Cristine Mantegna in Manhattan, New York, and raised in Los Angeles, California, Her Mom, Arlene, owns the restaurant “Taste Chicago” in Burbank, California. While growing up she was a trained gymnast and ballerina. She plays piano and saxophone and is a skilled singer.
Mantegna made her acting debut at age 13 in the 2003 film Uncle Nino, alongside Anne Archer, Trevor Morgan and her father, Joe Mantegna. She later appeared in 13 Going on 30. In 2006, Mantegna portrayed the character of Grace Conrad in Warner Brothers’ winter feature, Unaccompanied Minors. She was cast as one of the main roles in an American television pilot show Murder Book for Fox. She starred in The Neighbor alongside Matthew Modine, Michele Laroque and Ed Quinn.
She turned 18 in 2008, and decided to change her professional given name to Gia.
In 2008, Mantegna made a guest appearance in the Season 3 episode, for television show Criminal Minds, in which her father stars, wherein she portrayed an abducted teen named Lindsey Vaughn, who witnesses her best friend’s death. She also appeared on The Secret Life of the American Teenager in a recurring role as Patty Mary.
In 2010, Mantegna starred in the independent feature And Soon the Darkness. She also appeared in the TeenNick television series Gigantic.
On December 9, 2010, Mantegna was announced as the 2011 Miss Golden Globe for the 68th Annual Golden Globe Award Ceremony.
In 2011, Mantegna starred in the found footage feature Apartment 143 and in the independent romantic comedy, Getting That Girl. In addition to film roles, she plays recurring characters on The Middle and Under the Dome.
In 2017, Mantegna reprised her Criminal Minds guest starring role “Lindsey Vaughn”, now operating as a drug cartel hit woman.
