Sons and Daughters of Italy Lodge 2805 History

North Haven Sons and Daughters of Italy Lodge 2805 was formed On Sunday, January 11, 2004. The installation dinner was held at Zandris Stillwood Inn, Wallingford, Ct.
Pictured above are the 40 original members of Sons and Daughters of Italy Lodge 2805. The Lodge’s first meeting was held on February 3, 2004 at the Town of North Haven Recreation Center.
Our Lodge 2805 is made up of members from many age groups. As expected the majority of the Lodge 2805 members are of Italian American Heritage or those married to an Italian American. However there are many active members that are not Italian Americans.

Sons and Daughters of Italy Lodge 2805 First Event.

Our first large event was our Distinguished Citizen Dinner held September 18, 2004. The Distinguished Citizen Dinner is our main fundraiser and community event. The event is held to honor distinguished citizens within our Lodge and community. We continue to hold this event every year, except this year the pandemic postponed it. This event is usually held in March.

Most Popular Events

In 2005 the Lodge started a bingo on Monday Nights, Bingo began on November 15, 2005. It was held at Zandris Stillwood Inn. Our last Bingo was held in December of 2013. Perhaps The most popular event was our Italian Festival of Angels, which debuted on August 26 and 27, 2005. The event was held on the Town Green for the first 6 years. Then the Lodge moved the event to St Therese Church Grounds in North Haven for 2 years, and then back to the town green for the finale.

On Going Events

The events besides the Distinguished Citizen Dinner that are still in progress are Comedy Night, Golf Tournament, Fashion Show, 50’s Dance Party, Breakfast with Santa, Christmas Parties, Lodge Themed Dinners and more. Once again in 2020 because of the pandemic we were not able to hold any of these events.

Meetings

The Lodge’s regular stated meeting is scheduled for the first Tuesday of every month. Since April of 2020 we have been having our meetings via zoom. Before the pandemic we held our meetings at St Frances Cabrini Church. Its unknown at this time when we could resume meeting in person. At the proper time we will also begin to hold committee meetings, some of the larger committee meetings are held at the church, but many are held in the chairperson’s or another member’s home’s, often with a lot more social fun and desserts than business.

Charitable Giving

Our Lodge supports Order Sons and Daughters of Italy Foundation (SIF), and OSDI Commission Social Justice (CSJ) , Order Sons & Daughters of Italy Connecticut Grand Lodge Foundation, and many other National, State, and Local Charities. To Date our lodge has given over $172,000.00 to charity.
Our lodge is made up of a variety of people of different ages ranging from 15 to 80+. Of course the majority of the members are of Italian Heritage or those lucky enough to be married to an Italian American.  However, there are many members of all nationalities.
